Since 1994 Jessica Hengen has been living and working in New York City. Her interest in jewelry began with a random class taken at FIT solely for pleasure. Subsequently she embarked on a quest to develop an expertise in the full spectrum of the jewelry business.
Key to this self-education were various apprenticeships -- from a 8x10 workshop packed with chain-smoking Russian jewelers to large corporate manufacturing firms.
In previous incarnations she's held jobs as diverse as designing and building wrought iron gates to hand painting women's apparel. She has lived on both coasts and has traveled extensively. All this has led to a vision of her craft that is multifaceted and constantly evolving.
Jessica's collections are inspired by ancient lands and elements of history. The rich textiles, prolific gemstones and the mosaics of the Byzantium provide an endless source of inspiration for the "Byzantine" collection, while her techniques and methods used in another collection called "Texture" gives a modern piece of jewelry a sense of history.
